G-Men

G-men are found in the Milkman Conspiracy level, where they casually blend into the scenery as employees of the city, gardeners and neglected housewives uttering sentences in a monotone emotionless voice. They are very good at their job.

Old Psychopedia description

The G-Men are robotic mental figures present in the Milkman Conspiracy. Although they are technically not enemies, they act as the main obstacles of the world, much like censors.

Psychonauts []

Stop. This a restricted area.

–G-Men

The G-men monitor the neighborhood, searching for the Milkman. When Raz encounters the G-Men, it is clear they both share a common interest: to find the Milkman. While their motives are sketchy, the G-Men have various cameras posted around the neighborhood and will try to blend in with the local residents using "disguises". Even though they are warped by Boyd Cooper's psychosis, they are still seen as a threat to the Rainbow Squirts and the Den Mother.

Masters of Disguise []

They "disguise" themselves by holding different objects and stating what they are supposed to be disguised as. Humorously, they often use these objects in ways that show they clearly have no idea how they're supposed to be used, such as swinging a bouquet of flowers like a golf club or trying to play a plunger as though it is a trumpet. They don no other pieces of apparel to aid their disguise, keeping their distinctive trench coats and fedoras on at all times.

Twisted Motives[]

When encountering the hideout of the Milkman, revealed to by the events of Raz defeating the Den Mother, the G-Men storm the neighborhood, bringing along a dose of Censors, revealing their true nature of finding the Milkman. Their purpose was to help the Censors destroy the entity known as the Milkman. While the Censors move in, the Milkman has been awakened and starts to fight them off using his Molotov Cocktails to deplete their forces until they are dead.

Psychonauts 2[]

Three G-men appear in the Psychonauts recap animation in Psychonauts 2.

Gameplay[]

Types of Disguises[]

The G-Men have a variety of disguises (which are only objects that they hold). Raz can hold these objects to sneak through the zones that the G-Men block.

Wrong Approaches[]

If Razputin walks into the zones they are standing in (marked by dotted yellow lines) while not wearing the correct disguise, then he will be apprehended and interrogated by the G-Men. He will only have a few seconds to escape (unless, disguised or not, he attacks them) should he step into these areas. G-Men also have infra-red vision to see invisible objects such as Raz.

Correct Approaches[]

By holding the various correct disguises, Raz transforms into whatever the G-Men are pretending to be. If Raz uses Clairvoyance on them without holding an item, he appears as a black figure covered in question marks. If he uses clairvoyance while holding an item, he will appear as the profession correlating to that item.

Personalities and Traits[]

Mannerisms []

The G-Men are a monotone force of characters that are identical to one another, each using their "disguises" to try to blend in to find the Milkman. When approaching one, be sure not to slip up, for they usually use means of interrogation to get information they want. This can be seen when Raz first encounters a G-Man who is a road worker, quickly being questioned if he is the Milkman at gunpoint. When questioning the Milkman, the G-Men usually resort back to their disguises and try to continue on their mission.

Attire and Appearance[]

The G-Men are tall and lanky figures, usually towering over the other characters, with exception to the Den Mother. They have thin arms and legs with thicker built bodies, being able to open their mouth to display their firepower when interrogating, in the form of machine guns. Other than that, their mouth does not serve much other functions, as they still talk with it closed. However, the G-Men that disguise as Gardeners open their mouths to swallow their shears, as if they were sword swallowers. They wear detective gear with a trench coat and a suit underneath it, sporting a matching fedora that covers their red glowing eyes. Their skin is also a dark blue, appearing to blend in with dark surroundings as they wander the neighborhood in search of the Milkman. They resemble sleazy undercover government secret agents.

Trivia[]

  • The G-Men are all voiced by Steven Jay Blum, who also did the voice for Tiger in Black Velvetopia.
  • The G-Men are not to be confused with the G-Man, a popular character from the Half-Life series.
  • As seen in the final cutscene of Boyd's mind, it's likely that the G-Men may be working with the Censors to eradicate the Rainbow Squirts and Den Mother (and possibly the Milkman).
  • It is also possible that the G-Men are a form of Censors themselves, attempting to locate and destroy the foreign entity in Boyd's mind (the Milkman), while the normal Censors were suppressed by Boyd's insanity and Coach Oleander's hypnosis.
  • Their name is revealed by using the bacon and asking Cruller about the current situation while at the post office entrance.
  • The G-Men figment seen leaving Boyd's body as he burns down Thorney Towers Home for the Disturbed could represent the G-Men being removed from prominence in Boyd's mind, as he no longer has a need for them.
  • Their poor ability to disguise, and the fact that they are the only entity populating Boyd's mind besides the Rainbow Squirts, could be a reference to a common belief of conspiracy theorists that everyone is an agent of some hidden government branch that are out to capture them and their research, and that the theorist in question seems to be the only person who notices this.
  • Their design bears a striking resemblance to that of the shadow on Neighborhood Watch signs or the children's book, The Three Robbers.

Confusion quotes[]

If Razputin hits one of the G-men with confusion, their heads hover above their bodies and they say a line based on what item they hold. This cannot be discovered except by cheating, because all the G-men are defeated by the time Razputin obtains the confusion merit badge.

(sign) "What am I doing out here with this strange paddle in my hand?"
(phone) "Who is this? Why did you call me?"
(hedge trimmers) "Why am I trimming hedges? I pay a gardener good money to do this for me."
(rolling pin) "What's this? I hate pie!"
(flowers) "What am I doing in a graveyard? Am I dead?"
(plunger) "What am I doing in this smelly sewer? Disgusting!"
(rifle) "Oh my god. Why do I have a gun in my hand? I hope I didn't kill again."
(watering can) "Okay, I have to think. Does this watering can and I have a history?"
(no item) "I should be out trying to find the Milkman! Oh yeah. That's right. Disguise. Ahem."
